Hi, I’m Lorenzo Contessi, a physicist specializing in theoretical nuclear physics.
I would describe myself as a positive and analytical person always open to trying new experiences. However, describing ourselves is a difficult task, so I let my wife to decide the questions…
What are your hobbies?
My interests are varied. In my free time, I enjoy sports, particularly fencing, and playing board games, to have a well-rounded lifestyle. I also have a passion for learning new things and not rarely I engage in technical projects for personal development. For instance, I’ve explored programming a chatbot that generates images using stable diffusion algorithms, experimented with VR game development, and undertaken the challenge of building a drone from scratch. Together with my wife, we like to organize events for our friends that can range from simple afternoons at the park together to more involved role-play dinners with murder at home.
How would you describe your social life?
I’m not a shy person and I enjoy being with others; socializing is an essential part of my well-being. Specifically, I like facilitating interactions between people from various circles to observe how they connect and discover common ground. When in the company of others, I prefer to be active and share experiences with my friends. That’s why I encourage them to try new activities that break the routine.
However, I also like to have some time for myself, to reorganize my thoughts and to recharge my social battery. It is, therefore, essential for me to have projects and hobbies I can enjoy alone.
What are the aspects of your character you like the most and the least?
Although it may not be the most apparent aspect of my personality, I can be a persistent person who can patiently work towards a goal over time. I value this aspect of myself as it has enabled me to achieve goals of which I am proud. However, developing this skill required considerable effort because I am naturally easily excited about new things. This trait helps me stay flexible and open to new experiences, but it can also lead me to engage in too many activities, requiring me to put in extra effort to prioritize effectively.
What are your dreams?
This is for me a moment of big changes, after having traveled extensively for research, I am now finally settling. I would like to focus on my career and family while continuing to challenge myself, see new places, and try new experiences. I’m embracing the present moment and feeling more curious about the future than fixated on long-term goals.
